What Does It Mean to Be Grounded in Business?

Sep 5, 2024

Webster’s Dictionary defines “grounded” in at least two ways:

1. Mentally and emotionally stable: admirably sensible, realistic, and unpretentious, remains grounded despite all the praise and attention.

2. To furnish with a foundation of knowledge: base an understanding that is grounded in fact.”

When Nicole and I were discussing our business name, we both resonated with the term “grounded,” but for very different reasons.

For me, being grounded is about creating a solid foundation that will stand the test of time, while maintaining balance in life that considers all the important aspects of a well-rounded life. These include business growth and success, personal and family life, some spiritual connection (whether through religion, the universe, finding your Zen, or another form of connection that resonates), and personal self-care. All of these areas must align with the values that define you.

For Nicole, her definition of being grounded is much more literal. It involves a connection to the earth and nature—actually having your feet touch the raw ground, like standing barefoot in the grass to gather the negative ions that help recharge the body. She believes that balancing the stresses of our modern work environment with practices that allow the mind and body to re-energize is essential for resilience.

Neither of these definitions is wrong. In fact, they work synergistically. Whatever we do in life to nourish our souls, heal our bodies and minds, and clear our vision will support us in business by helping us define clear goals, create motivation, and remind us of our values as we build our business road map and move forward.

At Grounded Growth Coaching, we believe in balance, accountability, and motivation to help you create and realize your dreams.

How do you stay grounded and find your balance? We’d love to hear from you.
